Module Six: Trust The System

By Asa Beavers |

Results Accelerate When You Make This Part of Your Business DNA

Welcome to Module Six!

Well done getting to Module Six!

At this point in the process you may be thinking all right, feeling good about having a plan, or you might be thinking, wow, I’ve got some work to do.

How ever you may be feeling about your accomplishment to this point, it will soon change.

WHY?

Because business planning is a dynamic process that will require you to continuously analyze the situation, identify strategies, develop action plans, execute the plans, and evaluate results.

Yet with this system, and your new planning skills, you now have the essentials to gain control of your business and unlock its full potential.

This module is all about you accelerating your business success by using this system to update your plan every 90 days. It should take you a fraction of the time during future planning sessions because it’s unlikely the core values, purpose and promise will change.

So every 90 days the plan update is setting the goals, strategies, and action plans for the next 90 days. Plus, if you’re having effective weekly meetings already you’ll have a pretty good idea what those strategies are going to be.

In this module you will:

  • Consolidate the plan into a single page summary to make it easy to review
  • Review monthly financial statements, measure against goals and identify trends
  • Review KPIs, measure against goals and identify trend
  • Perform SWOT analysis and Start, Stop, Keep exercises
  • Sign your commitment and schedule a date for next 90 day update

The most important thing to recognize at this point is that consistency is crucial. This can not be a one and done exercise. Make it part of your business DNA and watch your business results accelerate.

Module Five: Find Your Rhythm

By Asa Beavers |

Effective Meetings Equals Efficient Communication!

Welcome to Module Five!

Whether you like them or not meetings are crucial to the success of your business.

Too often though business leaders try to stuff too much into meetings that occur too infrequently.

The end result  is boring, ineffective meetings for both leaders and participants, and then they cease to happen at all.

The objective of this module is to help you get in the rhythm of having an effective communications plan with your team.

After all, implementation of the action plans you create require effective communication with the people responsible for making it happen. Anything less will not get you the results you are expecting.

Once you fully understand that not every meeting has the same purpose, and meetings can vary in length and frequency, you'll then be open to formulating agendas for several different types of meetings. When meetings are well planned they become more effective and precise. Your team will participate more, and they'll walk away more informed and ready to perform their tasks.

In this module you will:

  • Establish a rhythm of structured meetings that meet the demands of your business
  • Set agendas so participants know what to expect and what’s expected of them
  • Make it repetitive

Expect to invest 30-45 minutes to complete the exercises in this module. In just that amount of time you’ll have an idea about how you will implement short, punchy meetings with structure, time limits and a specific agenda into your business.

Module Four: Connect The Dots

By Asa Beavers |

Thinking & Acting Strategic to Get More Done!

Welcome to Module Four!

Just a reminder: hope is not a business strategy.

Getting things done in your business requires having a process or following a system. Essentially it's about connecting the dots in a logical manner in order to get your most important things done.

The objective of this module is helping you lay out specific Action Plans for your business. Modules 1 and 2 defined WHY you have a business, and Module 3 defined WHAT is needed to make it work. This module is about defining the HOW.

The fact is, when everything’s a priority, then nothing’s a priority. In this module you will learn to prioritize and choose just several key initiatives at a time that could have the greatest impact on your business. Then you'll create action plans that detail why you’re doing it, what you’re going to do, how you’re going to do it, who’s responsible, and when it can be expected to be complete.

In this module you will brainstorm everything you can think of that you might want to do in the business, then prioritize and narrow it down to just 3-5 things you can do over the next 90 days. When you get this right you will be working ON what's most essential for your business to achieve the results your seek.

In this module you will:

  • Explore key strategies for different parts of your business
  • Prioritize 3-5 strategies to be addressed over the next 90 days
  • Build an action plan for each of your strategies

Expect to invest anywhere from 30-90 minutes to complete the exercises in the module. Get in a flow and do them all at the same time, and don't be in a rush. Take all the time you need to get it all out --- Empty The Trash!

Module Three: Set Your Targets

By Asa Beavers |

Keeping Score Turns Your Business Into a Game!

Welcome to Module Three!

If your favorite team is playing, what's the one thing that determines whether your team is winning or losing?

THE SCORE!  The same is true of your business.

In this module we are going to explore all the potential measurements you can take from your business, and decide which are most important to maximize growth.

The objective of this module is for you to have several key performance indicators [KPIs] to establish accountability for all involved, and determine whether your team is winning or losing on a day-by-day, week-by-week basis.

Too often businesses fail to take advantage of the innate desire for people to want to win. People want to compete, and they want to see how their efforts affect results. Yet without feedback in the way of a score they have no way of knowing. They also have no way of making adjustments that could affect the final result.

Setting your targets means having several specific KPIs in place that are clearly defined. They are also clearly communicated to the individuals responsible, and there's a system in place to track KPIs during the month. When you get this right you will know how your business is performing during the month, and you can now make adjustments that can affect the final outcome.

In this module you will:

  • Be able to establish realistic financial goals based on past performance
  • Identify 3-5 KPIs for your business that contribute to revenue generation
  • Create a way to track KPIs on a daily/weekly basis - this is called a Scorecard

Like the last module, take some time to complete all the exercises in this module. You are going to want to have financials statements from the last year available, and if you use a business software, any reporting it produces. You might need a calculator as well. Some proficiency with Excel will be best.

Module Two: Make It Your Own

By Asa Beavers |

Cultivate a Business Culture YOU Design!

Welcome to Module Two!

You know your business has an identity, a vibe, a culture that other people including your customers can sense.

In this module you're going to open up about your business and put much of how you feel and think about your business into writing.

The objective of this module is for you to look into the current culture, then based on what you write decide if some changes are in order.

Often a business culture develops on its own defined by the identity of the business owner. It develops as a combination of that person's experiences and perspectives.

But as the business grows, as employees come and go, and the owner plays less a role in the day-to-day operations, the identity and culture of a business can change. This is especially true if there’s not a clearly defined and documented purpose for why the business even exists.

Like in Module One, this module requires introspection. Make the effort to make your business your own by documenting WHY it exists in the first place and what it stands for. Soon you  will have designed a lasting culture where employees enjoy their work everyday and customers crave to visit your business and wouldn’t think of going anywhere else.

In this module you will:

  • Be clear about the vision you have for the business now and into the future
  • Establish a set of core values that steer your business and your team
  • Define the purpose of your business, who it serves, and why it exists
  • Have a clear understanding of your target market
  • Know how your business differs from the competition

STEP 2: Download workbook lessons for this module

Expect to invest to invest some time into this module. Unlike Module One where you might have completed it all in one sitting, this may require several sessions until you get completely clear. In fact, it's preferable you continue to come back to this until you feel like you've got it right. Once done, you job going forward will be inspiring others to follow along!
